A grocery list for couples that actually works
Updated · PIICK IT!
Couples rarely forget the shopping. They do it twice: you both remember the milk, and you both buy it on the way home. One shared list, ticked off in real time, ends that.
It also takes the mental load off one person. When you can both see and edit the list, remembering what the house needs stops being one person's job.
Set up one list for the two of you
- One of you creates a list, for example "Our home", and shares the invite code.
- The other joins from their phone. You now both see the same list.
- Add the things you buy every week. The couples template is a good start.
- Agree that whoever finishes something adds it.
Who does the shopping?
Some couples do one big shop together at the weekend; others pick things up on the way home. A live list works for both: if you are at the supermarket and your partner is at the market, each of you ticks what you bought and the other sees it straight away.
Meals for two
- Plan three or four dinners and cook enough for lunch the next day.
- Buy fresh food twice a week rather than once, so less goes off.
- Keep a "treats" section so the chocolate is planned, not an impulse.
Money without awkwardness
Decide whether you split everything equally or in proportion to income, and log each shop as a shared expense with who paid. The app keeps the balance, so neither of you has to keep score.
For the two of you
- One shared list, both invited
- Weekly base items added
- Rule: finish it, add it
- Tick items as they go in the bag
- Each shop logged with who paid

Questions and answers
What is the best grocery list app for couples?
One you can both edit in real time, that shows what the other already bought and that helps split costs. PIICK IT! does all three, free, in the browser.
How do couples split grocery costs?
Most split equally or in proportion to income. Logging every shop with who paid keeps it fair without anyone keeping score.
Can we each keep a personal list too?
Yes. Every account has a private Personal group, so you can keep your own list next to the shared one.
